Hi all,

We’re planning on making some changes to amulets/sigils/runes available in PvP for the Winter 2016 Update (January 26). Some of these changes will greatly affect the way that PvP is played, so I wanted to take this opportunity to get the changes in front of everyone, discuss the implications as a group, and see where we net out. Most of these changes are easily reversible, so don’t view this as a “forever change”, but rather something we’ll tweak until we get PvP’s gameplay closer to our vision for it. These changes will go out prior to our next season PvP League season, so if we identify a change that isn’t accomplishing our goals we’ll have time to address it before the season begins.

You’ll note that a lot of the changes below are directed at more defensive stat combos/items. Our intent is not to eradicate this type of gameplay, but simply to improve the pace of gameplay overall.

Runes
We’ll be removing the following runes from PvP:

  • Rune of Durability
  • Rune of Mercy

Sigil Changes:

  • Sigil of Demon Summoning: this sigil will no longer be usable in PvP.
    • We already removed a majority of AI summoning sigils/runes in a previous release – we’re just finishing the job.
  • Sigil of Energy: the functionality of this Sigil is changing slightly. Instead of granting 50 endurance on weapon swap, Sigil of Energy will instead grant 5 seconds of vigor to the player with the usual 9 second ICD. This change only applies to PvP.

Amulet Changes:

We’ll be adding the following amulets:

Mercenary’s Amulet
1050 Power
1050 Condition
560 Toughness
560 Vitality

Sage’s Amulet
1050 Power
1050 Condition
560 Healing Power
560 Vitality

Paladin’s Amulet
1050 Power
1050 Precision
560 Toughness
560 Vitality

Mender’s Amulet
1050 Power
1050 Healing Power
560 Precision
560 Vitality

We’re also removing the following amulets:

  • Soldier’s
  • Settler’s
  • Celestial
  • Sentinel

PS, gold for purchases runes/amulets will be refunded, and the newly added amulets will be free.

Please implement a 3-item stat system already. The current amulet system is severely limiting build diversity, but it could be fixed fairly easily just by splitting the amulet into 3 or 4 items.

I don’t like that all the new amulets have power primary. that combined with removing settler’s is like a big middle finger to anyone trying to run a condition focused build (as opposed to hybrid)

Why did you remove bunker amulets then add mercenary amulet?

560 vitality / toughness with 1k power and condi??? this is essentially vipers gone wild, why move forward 1 step and 1 step back?

PLZ for the low of god add this amulet combination:

+1050 power
+1050 precision
+560 toughness
+560 ferocity

This will be highly desirable for rangers, mesmers, warriors, and necromancers who wish to play a power build. Currently thees classes can pick berzerker (an go full glass) or marauder to get some defence. The stat combination i proposed would be a competitor to the marauder amulet since the above mention classes have medium and high hp pools and getting more hp is somewhat redundant (not on all builds but still), but they all would greatly benefit from some added armor.

Back on topic i love all the item changes. The removal of celestial and introduction of these new stat combinations will force ppl to make more of a choice when making a build.

Sitting here contemplating yet another hard slap down on Mesmer… and don’t even get me started on the blatantly exploitable tournament system.

I can’t say I believe any of this about amulets will actually be what happens. I think that the devs buff there favorite classes and nerf classes that beat them. My confidence in the game balance wanes a bit more.

I think that you, personally, dislike Mesmers. Am I wrong?

What’s your POV on cleric and magi amulet? Aren’t they also too tanky and therefore should be removed?

I think the reason Clerics was left alone was that it’s not as easily exploited for hybrid High damage bruiser-type bunkers. Cele/Settlers/Soldiers are all corner stone pieces for high damage bunkers (/bruisers).

The new amulets are more offensive-oriented while still having defensive stats. This seems good to:

  1. avoid extreme bunker or extreme burst builds;
  2. move the meta towards a more balanced-offensive state without going too far into it;
  3. promote builds with clear strengths and weaknesses stat-wise (aka, no celestial);

In theory, I’m happy with those changes. There’s not too much defense in there, while also avoiding instant-kill builds. I hope those changes work well in practice.

If you’re going to get rid of Soldier, Sentinel and Celestial, then giving us these amulets as a replacement is the right approach to plug the gap. I do worry that such big changes may force many classes out of the meta, but we’ll have to see how it shakes out. Giving us a +healing amulet that also has +vitality and +power is a big improvement, as it gives Elementalists something that is viable other than Celestial. Many people will probably find the Paladin amulet more fun to play with (and against) than Soldier or Sentinels amulet, so I applaud that change.

Mercenary Amulet, are you seriously thinking it’s a good idea?

It’s a strong hybrid amulet without being a ridiculous generalist damage + defence like celestial.

The fact this ammy has no ferocity means the power side is marginalized. It’ll allow for some nice builds, but it’ll hardly be a scary ammy.

++1 for Removing Celesial. Smartest thing you ever did, Anet XD

Will be keen to see how it all plays out, really.
