Hello
I seem to be unable to hear anything on my speakers although I have the audio device settings to the default playback device driver.
The sound was working perfectly fine ingame until I plugged out my headset earphones. I was in the introduction video while this happened. The audio device settings automatically changed to my speakers and was playing sound fine, but when I got to the gameplay I couldn’t hear anything.

Operating System is Windows 7 64bit
Default sound device is Realtek High Definition Audio, the speakers work fine on any other program so it is definitely not muted.

Ingame I have tried setting the audio device to Realtek High Definition Audio instead of the default device, however that doesn’t work. Putting on the Headset Earphone audio device works fine though.
I have also attempted to restore the defaults on the audio settings but to no avail. My earphones only seem to work with the game.

Is there anything that I could be missing?

Hello

I’m having very simillar issue, with the exception, that in my case even the headphones don’t seem to work. Also the game isn’t completely muted, I can hear the sound playing, but it’s veeeeery silent, even on max. output power. I’ve already tried changing sound settings in game and in Windows (Win 7 64 bit), but with no effects at all. Also GW2 is only thing not working properly right now, every other program/game on my system is playing sounds correctly. Any ideas what may be wrong?

EDIT
Problem solved, it appears that I missed one option in Sound Mixer, where GW2 got mysteriously muted to 0.

the game has not implemented the Xaudio COM function required for correcting the output device when the current device is lost.

when you unplug a headset from an intel HD enabled front panel, it counts as the device being lost, so only restarting the game will fix it atm.

I’ve had the game over a week now and it still doesn’t seem to be working. I might add that it used to be working at the initial home world select screen. When I plugged in my earphones and opened the game to select a world, during the introduction I plugged out my earphones and the sound from my speakers only worked until the end of the introduction.

Also, for those using RealTek with the HD Audio Manager, the image I have posted has the HD Audio Manager ‘Speakers’ tab open and shows the pop up accessed by pressing ‘Device advanced settings’ – blue and underlined in the top left corner of the HD Audio Manager.

I was having problems with audio when switching between headphones and speakers – in games or out (Windows 7)!

At the time of those problems, I did check the default windows playback device and checked in various programs I used that they where using the correct device. It was only when I experimented with the options shown in the HD Audio Manager ‘Device advanced settings’ that I was able to rectify the problems.

So, I cannot say this will work for or be any help to any of those experiencing audio issues (particularly with RealTek) but thought I’d post it as a possible aid.

I have not had to use the ‘Device advanced settings’ thusfar since installing Windows 8 but I have twice experienced a strange problem where in game (GW2 only), I suddenly loose audio completely and when exiting game, I have no audio at all and the only way to fix that problem is to completely uninstall Realtek Audio, restart PC, let it auto update the audio then reinstall the RealTek audio. Though this problem is strange it has only happened twice and was easily fixed!
